Cultivating Leadership and Responsibility
The Student Council at St. Mary’s provides a unique platform for students to develop essential leadership skills. By participating, students will learn the value of service, teamwork, and community engagement, helping to build a strong foundation for their future endeavors.
Selection Process
The process of selecting Student Council members ensures that those chosen have both the respect and support of their peers and teachers. Students are nominated by their teachers and then elected by their classmates in 5th and 6th grades, making the selection process both democratic and merit-based.
Expectations of Student Leaders
Members of the Student Council are expected to embody the core values of St. Mary’s Grade School. These include demonstrating courtesy, honesty, fairness, and respect towards others and their property. Student leaders are also encouraged to promote diversity and foster positive relationships within the school community, working collaboratively as part of a team.
Commitment to Academics and Meetings
While leadership development is a key focus, academic success remains a priority. If any academic concerns arise, students may need to temporarily step back from their Student Council duties to focus on their studies. Meetings will be scheduled based on Mrs. Greenemeyer’s availability, and attendance is crucial for staying informed and involved in council activities.
Engaging in Off-Campus Activities
Student Council members will have the opportunity to participate in supervised off-campus activities and events. These experiences are designed to broaden their horizons and provide practical leadership experiences. Parents and guardians will be notified in advance of any such activities.
Impactful Initiatives
In the past, the Student Council has made significant contributions to our community through various initiatives. These include organizing The Catholic Charities Diaper Drive, a school-wide canned food drive, and other leadership-focused activities. These efforts not only help those in need but also instill a sense of responsibility and compassion in our students.
Join Us in Building Future Leaders
We encourage parents and guardians to support their children’s participation in this enriching experience. The Student Council is an excellent opportunity for students to develop leadership skills, make a positive impact, and build lasting relationships within our school community.
